The main Tomintoul commercial range consists of nine expressions. The 10 and 16 year old editions represent the original bedrock of the portfolio. “Peaty Tang”, is distilled in the traditional manner but, unusually for the Speyside Glenlivet region, it is crafted using peated malted barley to impart a distinctive smoky and heathery flavour. In contrast, the 12 years old Sherry Cask Finish was transferred into Oloroso Sherry butts for the last eighteen months of maturation. The result is a creamy, elegant single malt with hints of Sherry sweetness. Similarly, the 12 years old Portwood Finish spent the last twenty months of maturation “finishing” in Port pipes resulting in a dignified malt with gentle port influence and hints of peppery spice. The Tomintoul 14 years old, unchillfiltered at 46% vol and with no added colouring is as close as you can get to the notion of “straight from the cask”. Tomintoul 21 years old was introduced in 2011 to bridge the gap between the 16 and 33 years old versions. Tomintoul 33 Years old, the oldest release in the gamut, was added to the brand range at the top end of the age spectrum and demonstrates the virtues of supreme quality of taste arising from the direct result of careful maturation in meticulously selected Bourbon casks over a very long period of time. The 1976 Vintage is a distillation from an exceptional year. Collected from hand-picked casks over 30 years later, it is a jewel amongst single malts. |
